Doug Steinly, Vice President – Population Health and Wellness
Doug Steinly’s experience in the fitness and wellness industry spans over 25 years. He started his career at the Newtown Athletic Club in Bucks County, PA as Fitness Center Manager. Within 4 years, he was promoted to the role of General Manager and helped to oversee the growth of the facility from a 25,000 square foot fitness, aerobic and racquetball club into a 96,000 square foot family athletic facility with over 10,000 members.
In 2000, Doug was hand-selected to oversee the development and organization of HealthQuest, a 104,000 square foot family athletic club located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He was involved in every aspect of this operation from the ground up. During his 10 year tenure with HealthQuest, he oversaw the growth from a presale campaign generating 2000 membership units to over 4000 in 12 months. The gross revenues grew from $3.5 million to $8.6 million from 2001 to 2009.
In the fall of 2010, Doug took on the opportunity of overseeing the design and build of a 46,000 square foot fitness facility in Horsham, PA, growing this club to over 2000 units in 18 months with annual revenue of $1.8 million. Following this venture, Mr. Steinly was commissioned to assist in the restructuring and renovation of a newly acquired 80,000 square foot facility for the Aquatic Fitness Clubs in Lower Bucks County, PA. This project involved the transition of a ‘mom and pop’ club into the culture of a small corporation, as well as facility renovations totaling $1 million. Most recently, Doug was approached to assist in the growth and restructuring of a 120,000 square foot facility in Pennington, NJ. With his strong background in programming for the entire family, he has transitioned this facility from an adult fitness and racquet sports club into a multigenerational wellness center that is the hub of the community.
Over the past 20 years, Doug has been very active in the fitness industry, not only attending many of the IHRSA and Club Industry trade shows and conventions but also as an educational presenter for both organizations. Doug has spent 5 years as an active member of the Roundtable for Executives (REX Roundtables) with other industry owners and managers. Locally, he has served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Business Association Board and has been an active member of the Rotary for over 8 years.
